Hair conditioners with slip

The last post on hair products you dislike brought up a key issue - slip in hair conditioner! Slip is required to allow hair to be easily combed (using fingers, a comb or brush) as the hair strands glide past each other.

My vote is for anything in the herbal essences range. I particularly like the intensive masks in the jars. My staple is hello hydration but my hair loves the soft and smooth (in an orange jar) but which is harder to find on sale.

It is list making time, what is YOUR favourite conditioner(s) with slip!

Herbal Essences Side Note: I know someone will ask so here are the answers - I no longer buy the tall bottles, they have a lot of slip but not as much softness (key ingredient in the jar that makes the difference is the amount of behentrimoniun chloride). The jars are way more expensive than the long bottles (approximately $10/ £4 per jar full price but often get buy one get one free or half price deals).  Each jar lasts 3-4 washes conservatively used and no I do not know why they are not widely available in USA because they are good!!

  3. I read on honeysmoke.com that tightlycurly.com mentions HE bottle conditioners now contain sodium hydroxide (HEHH and others, in the "Rinsing Conditioner" section). What are your thoughts on this new ingredient and potential effects on afro-textured hair?

    Thanks!

  4. I like Shea Moisture African Black Soap Purification Masque. It's $10 at Target and Walgreens. It has awesome ingredients, lots of slip and smells like plaintains. Coconut oil--my usual detangler/pre-poo of choice--is the second ingredient in the mask.

Shea Moisture African Black Soap Purifification Masque

Ingredients: Deionized Water , Cocos Nucifera Oil (Coconut) , Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) , Mangfera Indica Seed Butter (Mango) , Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado) , African Black Soap Extract , Sea Salt , Cetyl Esters , Kaolin Clay , Grapeseed Oil , Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil (Jojoba) , Behentrimonium Chloride (Conditioner) , Salicylic Acid , Salix Alba Bark Extract (Willow) , Melia Azadirachta Seed Oil (Neem) , Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Oil (Tea Tree) , Sorbitol Esters , Aloe Vera Leaf Juice , Tocopherol (Vitamin E) , Rosemary Extract , Salvia Officinalis Extract (Sage) , Plantain Extract , Lonicera Caprifolium Flower and Lonicera Japonica Flower Extract (Honeysuckle and Japanese Honeysuckle)

smells wonderful, huge bottle, very cheap, great slip

  6. Anon - Sodium hydroxide is added as a pH balancer. The pH of the product is about 6 (slightly acidic) and I have not seen an acidic relaxer ever! I have done a previous post on this if you search for it, you will find the full article.

  7. Yes to Cucumbers Conditioner. Great slip, and great ingredients. Yes to Carrots has great slip, but the smell is not my favorite, though I will buy it if I don't see the Yes to Cucumbers in stock.

  8. I always liked the Tresemme Naturals line.

  9. Where do you purchase the masks from? I've noticed the boots and superdrug near me no longer stock the hello hyrdration masks which is annoying.

  10. Hi Shereen - I buy them mostly from superdrug (more sales) and I have seen them in boots (mostly full price). I also have seen them in sainsbury's and tesco.

  11. Great! Aussie Moist, Pantene Dry to Moisturized (maybe better for finer hair) and Pantene Frizzy to Smooth.

  12. Nothing beats V05 conditioners for slip, fragrance variety, volume per bottle, and price.

  13. Suave Almond and shea. Great slip, awesome ingredients. It has about almost the same slip as aussie moist so I started using it instead because I love all the natural oils it contains

  14. Pantene Curly Dry to Moisturized and Aussie 3 Minute Miracle

  15. I have to admit, my all time favourite appears to be the John Frieda squeeze bottles. I've tried the (ridiculously expensive) jar, but didn't notice a difference to the squeeze bottles. I keep coming back to them for 10 years now. They are too expensive so I only buy when they are on sale. Their (almost ;)) equivalent at a reasonable price is Herbal Essences - thanks, JC, that's been a discovery of this blog to me! - but I have the impression my hair is more frizz prone when I use that, so I will use Herbal Essences when I wear my hair natural, and Frieda when I roller set/wrap. In the past there were comparable slippery L'Oreal jars, but they have all been discontinued :( (European hair here, fine strands but a lot of them, loose coils in the back of head, wavy but quite kinky on crown)

  16. Everyday Shea moisturizing conditioner and Suave almond+shea butter conditioner are both great. Sometimes I use them as my DC's as well, just add some of my favorite oils.

  21. Kinky Curly Knot Today, AG Cosmetics: Fast Food and CURLS Milkshake (even though it's not marketed as a slippery conditioner, it's got some pretty good slippage).

  22. I remember the first time I had used the HE mask in the red jar. I had to wear my hair down because no claw clip wanted to hold in my hair afterwards. The slip was AMAZING!! Plus the HE products smell awesome.

  23. Jc, I think the HE intensive masks may be a UK-only thing because I have yet to see them here in the States. I am an HE HH stan so you know I've been looking... :)

  24. Komaza Care: Olive Moisture Mask. Great slip, detangles and moisturizes (at least for me).

  25. lol Lbell - Everytime I have that picture up, I always get floods of emails about where to get the jars in US - I cannot understand why they are not sold there, they are amazing!! Maybe someone in UK will set up shop and start sending them to US.

  26. Could you please post Herbal Essences Hello Hydration ingredients list? A photo if it is more convenient. I know it is different in different countries and I wonder it contains in british version.

    I would be very grateful!

  27. Hi Jc. I saw that someone mentioned the Shea Moisture Purification Masque. Just wanted to mention that people should be careful with it (not leave on longer than recommended time) it can lead to some unbearable itching if left on too long. Some think it might be the Kaolin Clay. Just thought I'd pass on this tidbit. Thanks.

  29. Kinky-Curly Knot Today has the most amazing slip! It's expensive but we wash every 1-2 weeks so it lasts awhile and is worth it for us.

  30. Tresemme Naturals-- if I am using a different conditioner and it doesn't contain enough slip, I add the Tresemme to it!

  31. AUSSIE MOIST and AUSSIE MOIST 3 MINUTE MIRACLE DEEEEEEP CONDITIONER gives me way more slip than Herbal Essences Hello Hydration.

  32. The first (and last) time I tried Aussie Moist conditioner, I didn't like it. I had those two unused bottles sitting in my cupboard since. Due to the positive commentaries here, I gave it another chance at the weekend, and loved it. Lots of slip and soft hair, but not as heavily weighed down as with my John Frieda conditioners. It is puzzling - how can one and the same conditioner work differently on the very same head at different times?

  33. Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose...LOOVE!For me, it was awesome! Just divine. Thanks Aubrey!
