Energy Vampires: Strange Comments and Emails
Ok, let me turn this around. This post is really to say thank you to the 99% of you who are polite, respectful, inquisitive and/or appreciative. I love a good debate and I avoid mudslinging contests.
I rarely get time to respond to the emails where people simply write in to say thank you and for that I am truly sorry and I will be changing because you deserve my attention.
I feel drained by strangely aggressive comments and emails. Today I received a comment telling me to go and do my homework (lol on a post where I was reporting a scientific paper no less). A couple of days back, I received an email asking why I don't put up copies of my degrees (err.......who does that?).
I feel that I need to override these odd balls because they are the exceptions rather than the rule. I want to take a moment to give gratitude to you, everyone who has been polite. Thank you, you are the reason why I maintain this blog, you are the reason why I will be positive!
I encourage you to zap those energy vampires in your life (You know - those people who carry doom and gloom with them wherever they go!). Let us value the people who value us and our input.

Yes, stay positive. You're doing great her and don't need to explain to any haters.
ReplyDeleteHey JC, don't you mind them. Haters are going to hate. Your natural hair blog has the best information out there, hands down. I appreciate every moment you spend typing it all out for us here. Thanks for everything that you do!
ReplyDeleteJC, just want to say that I LOVE your blog and you're doing a great job. It's a wealth of knowledge and it's great to know that it's coming from a non-bias scientific POV.
ReplyDeleteWorry not about strange comments and emails! You're doing more good than most in the natural hair blogsphere! Keep up the good work JC!
Hi Jc
ReplyDeleteI rarely comment but please know that I love your blog! I don't understand people who devote their energies to trolling and just trying to bring people down (note: totally different to people who bring valued constructive criticism and well thought out differing view points). The internet's a funny thing isn't it and anonymity does tend to bring out the cowards... just ignore them, and please keep on keeping on for as long as you enjoy this whole blogging thing!
((HUG))
ReplyDeleteJust ignore those crazies.
I get some really malicious emails about my hair, my husband, my body type, my personality, my writing style, race issues. It's insane.
At first I was getting upset and wondered if I should stop blogging. Then I realized those mo fos were just unhappy wackos and not to let them get to me.
I'm sorry you're getting weird/negative emails, but I'm glad you're not letting it stop you from doing what you do.
xo,
Dani
PS I cracked up at the show your degrees comment...cuz seriously....who does that?! hahahahha
wow, ppl are crazy. They wouldn't want anyone to talk to them in that way. Politeness seems to be becoming extinct lately.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog. Thank YOU for taking the time to share knowledge. If they don't like it they have the choice to NOT read it. Consider yourself a celebrity, they asked President Obama for his "papers" too. Keep up the fight.
ReplyDeleteThank you all very much. I appreciate your support and kind words :)
ReplyDeleteDani I did not know you get such serious rubbish thrown at you! You stay so upbeat and positive and that is very admirable. Your blog is fab hun!
Amen.
ReplyDeleteHello JC,
ReplyDeleteThanks you for creating this blog. I've learned so much things from you and i'm sure i'm alone to think that. Let the haters hate. they admire you in some way lol!
Stay blessed
Marie grace
Ignore them Jc. I don't know why people can't disagree respectfully.
ReplyDeletesending happy rainbows your way... :D
Asanti sana!
ReplyDeletePlease keep up the good work Jc. Just shake off those nay-sayers and carry on with the great work you are doing. I truly appreciate all the time and energy you put into this blog. The information is invaluable and soundly scientific.
In the end, no matter what you do, you can't please everyone. As long as working on this blog makes you happy, that's all the counts!
Hi Jc, i appreciate everything you write and the time and effort you put into the blog, that is helping thousands of us.
ReplyDeleteThose negative people are always there, it's hard to ignore them sometimes, but we must, i get a few on my YT channel too (louloumatou), with the weirdest emails and comments, sometimes i have to read them several times just to make sure i am really reading THAT! :)
big hugs and keep being positive! xxx
just keep pn doing what you do...thanks
ReplyDeleteThank you so much again! I appreciate the love thank you for taking the time to encourage me :)
ReplyDeletemwenzangu pole sana! I had no idea you receive negative emails. Please keep posting, inspiring us and informing us. I've learned so much from your blog and my hair truly reflects the knowledge I've acquired here :)
ReplyDeleteAmen to the post! And truly thank YOU for maintaining an informative, intelligent, thought provoking blog. It is why I follow . . .
ReplyDeleteJC...People are always intimidated by successful people and especially successful people who are smart and intelligent i.e JC, how do they share their intimidation..by negativity and silly ass comments. You gotta realise that its in awe they do this (maybe just in my little head), they wanna be you!..so keep doing what you do..coz so many of us appreciate and gain loads from the information you share! Have a great day and yeah we still working on your project. Much love!!
ReplyDeleteThose negative comments really surprize me, I always thought this blog had the most respectful readers (you got to read what the Beauty Brains have to deal with, its insane).
ReplyDeleteAnyway,I dont understand it,we all should invest our time in constructive things, as you do.
Im biologist and understand whats behind scientific work,I really admire the effort you do to mantain this wonderful blog, thank you!.
As Don Quijote of La Mancha said "the dogs are barfing cause we are advancing".
Alejandra from Bolivia.
Thank you all very much!
ReplyDeleteAmina - Asante Dada, I have received some odd comments and emails which I ignore but until a couple of weeks ago, I have never received anything aggressive. I think the aggressive ones are disturbing because this blog and everyone here is just not like that! I feel like people who want to fight just need to go somewhere else, this is not the place for it :)
I know I'm a slacker when it comes to commenting, but I certainly wanted to take a moment after this post to let you know how much I appreciate what you do. Blogs like yours keep us newly naturals motivated and encouraged. So just know for every little handful of those who were not taught to have a grateful heart, there are a hundred more, who most certainly were. Much luv!^_^
ReplyDeleteThere will always be someone that disagrees, disapproves, or even dislikes you. For every one of them, there's a thousand of us that appreciate the time and effort you put into this blog. I know it rattles you up a little inside, but it's not your job to teach them the proper way to critique someone's work. In the end the only thing you can do is ignore them and continuing doing what you do best.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work. You are much appreciated. I have learnt so much from your blog. So you've got haters out there? You must be doing something right!
ReplyDeleteIt's a sad fact, but true none-the-less, that some people are just miserable and actually find great pleasure in making sure that everyone in their sphere shares in that misery too. Kudos to you for ignoring them.
ReplyDeleteMona
Amen and thank you for your research.
ReplyDeleteIgnore please, it's really not about you, but more likely about their own insecurities.
ReplyDeleteLove this blog...it is practical and factual...
Brava! keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteStay positive. I absolutely LOVE your blog and I refer ALL naturals to it on a regular basis. I even refer people who are not natural nor thinking about going natural to come to your blog to learn about hair. I too am a scientist so I understand and greatly respect all the effort you put toward this blog. Research is not always easy and you definitely help to weed out non-sense that's put out here to everyone trying to take advantage of people and there hair issues be it due to ignorance or insecurities. Thanks you very much for your hard work.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, how you use illustrations in the right moment, your sense of humour... I can't imagine why anyone would want to be impolite towards you. But anyway, Carla above is right, it's not your job to teach them. If their parents haven't taught them to be respectful when they were little, they won't learn it as adults. Or a little German saying for them: Was Hänschen nicht lernt, lernt Hans nimmermehr ;) sending lots of love! <3
ReplyDelete(Long time reader, first post! :) Thank you for all the effort you put into this blog. You do what you do for the love of it, and I truly appreciate that. You do not have to spend your free time researching for strangers, but you do. And you're offering all this knowledge for free! You're not even overwhelming your readers with ads, which is especially precious. I love this blog and will be a reader for as long as it's in existence. Thank you so much!
ReplyDeleteconsidering that you are all kinds of awesome and bring a scientific approach to hair care, haters can eat moldy cheese lol
ReplyDeleteThank you all for being so kind and supportive! I do appreciate that the most important things (to me)have not gone unnoticed (like citing research, using diagrams, keeping fun in the writing, keeping this place ad free and keeping this information free).
ReplyDeleteYou are all so wonderful!!
Also not a regular commenter, but want to say thanks so much - your site has been an amazing resource.
ReplyDeleteI tried to keep my hair out of braids before a couple of years ago and gave up because i couldn't quite find the right routine.
Then I came across your site -and I've never looked back.
So ignore all the haters - I hope you can see from the many responses just how much value and knowledge you've brought to people.
Keep it up!
JC, pay these internet trolls no mind! Do you. And we love you for it!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the awesome work.
Your blog is fantastic! You always do solid research and explain the science behind the findings. Don't let the crazy comments get you down (but if they do, watch this hilarious video from the musical [title of show] about energy vampires: http://www.youtube.com/titleofshow#p/u/38/2HP6V6FnGEY, NSFW due to language)
ReplyDeleteSomehow, I can't understand why those people still read you. If they hate you that much--the way the express their hate, they should just stop reading. :) Or maybe they just want someone to challenge them. I don't know.
ReplyDeleteAlso, there's a little thing called respect. They can never expect to find someone who they will agree with all the time, that includes bloggers they see online. I may not agree with you some times but, I keep it to myself, or I ask questions, or google some more, or challenge my beliefs.
You're putting yourself out there, and I appreciate that. It's like someone, not a computer, doing intelligent RSS stuff. and sharing knowledge, best of all it's free.
