Shopping in the UK!!
Hope you are all having a fab weekend! I am currently indulging and enhancing my geekery credentials by learning html code! I am tired of blogger, it is terrible! I have decided to learn how to write code and here is my very first product!!
I have made an all singing all dancing (Yes I am very pleased with myself!) list of where to get those oh so desirable hair products.
As always I am not endorsing any of these products or shops (brick and mortar or online!). I am just saying if you want to get it, here is a possible solution! Please remember if you are shopping from US or outside the EU, you will likely have to pay for customs and shipping. Also when shopping on Ebay do take the normal precautions such as looking at the sellers rating and reviews in detail.
Do feel free to contribute to the list too, let me know the product and the shop or website where you got it from!

Thank you so much for this! I'm strongly considering moving to the UK next year, so it's good to know that I'll be able to find hair produts. You can buy shea butter for way cheaper than L'Occitane at African Markets like Brixton Market in London. Also, when I was in London last week I discovered Naked conditioners. http://www.boots.com/en/Naked-Boost-Vitamin-Conditioning-Treatment-400ml_122104/ The intensive hair treatments (they have three) are amazing and right now they're on sale for two for 10 pounds. I highly recommend it!
ReplyDeleteGreat info Moni, I'll update the list on a weekly basis. Can you confirm if the shea butter you found was refined (usually very white and little to no smell) or unrefined (usually yellow with a nutty smell). Thanks for contributing!
ReplyDeleteHi Jc, great site. You can actually get pure unrefined shea butter at the health store Baldwins & Co, which is on the Walworth Road.
ReplyDeletePat on the back to you for getting tech educated! It looks great. I wish I was tech savvy and had the patience to do stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteThanks Destiny Angel - will put that up on the table! Thanks too Callalily - necessity is the mother of invention, I couldn't take it anymore with blogger's constant messing up and also the fact that I just wanted to do more! It does take some patience but my husband needed me to stop whining and urged me to do this, so here I am!
ReplyDeleteHi Jc
ReplyDeleteYou can get shea butter (unrefined and refined) at sheabuttercottage or anita grant. Sheabutter cottage also sells various oils including castor, argan, jojoba and coconut oils. And tesco sells herbal essences too! Just saw the masks there a couple of days ago. Thay also sell Organix coconut and sheabutter conditioners - which some people really like.
For even cheaper than Balwins at Malata supermarket on the way to Baldwins, you can get unrefined shea butter, the price sometimes varied widly, but its never been more thatn £3.00. If you have an African Supermarket in your area 90% of the time they will have shea butter
ReplyDeleteYou can get oils and butter and other herbal hair goods at akuawood.co.uk
and anitagrant.com
Boots curl creme - from boots( for curl definition) and the boots website (£1.29)
Local BBS's- nearly everything you have in the US and some Indian oils usually
If you are doing the ayurvedic routine
spicesofindia.co.uk
Giani calvaro cobnditoner *cough* Aldi *cough* lol
Inecto conditioner Superdrug and other discount stores
molasses- Holland and Barrets
Thanks for your contributions ladies!!I will update the table weekly!
ReplyDeleteI was just checking out le coil (http://lecoil.tumblr.com/)
ReplyDeleteLondon based Madame Pepper is featured. She's the founder of the social networking site of Naturally Kinky http://tinyurl.com/ylourne
You have to sign up to have access. Just thought I would pass it along because I remembered you were doing this post.
This is a great list!
ReplyDeleteThanks mysskay, I'm off to check out the site! Thanks too Leila
ReplyDeleteJust to add; Naturally curly delivers to the Uk and has a 5 day turnaround time.
ReplyDeleteAlso --> afrotherapy.com for Curls products
naturalfrizz.co.uk for Jessicurl products
Adornment hair salon in brixton for Qhemet products
Mariposa imports (but delivery is kinda expensive)
I totally agree with the ladies who mentioned anitagrant.com
ReplyDeleteHer Rhassoul Deep Condishes are wonderful & do not contain protein. However, the best product by far is her creamy cafe latte - smells like heaven! My natural hair has never had it so good.
I only use Anita Grant and Qhemet products.
Hi There
ReplyDeleteYour blog is brilliant! Thanks so much for such an incredible amount of information for us UK girls.
With regards to Aphogee, you can get it in Pak Cosmetics in Dalston, Kingsland High Street (Hackney). Their web address is http://www.pakcosmetics.com/
Kind regards
Michelle
where can i purchase Oyin Handmade here in the Uk?
ReplyDeleteHi Niki - I actually believe outside of US, there are no Oyin shops nor are there any dealers who sell the product. I was emailed by a UK reader who imports it in (they will ship to UK). This is so far the only info, I'll email them and find out for you anyway!
ReplyDeleteHi Jc: I was wondering if you or your readers have heard of Curl Harmony or The Hairoine. . .
ReplyDeleteYou can get Kinky Curly online at bristih curlies its a bit expensive but not if you love the product
ReplyDeleteMariposa Imports sell Oyin Handmade. They're not in the UK, but they are in Europe so delivery is cheaper than from the US at least x
ReplyDeleteThank god for your blog. I love all the natural bloggers but it's so nice to find one from the UK. Well done you!!
ReplyDeleteI live in the UK as well east London to be precise and I buy most of my oils from naturallythinking.com and shampoo without sls or parabens they also have hand made soaps, glycerine, floral waters for customise skin toner and alot of natural stuff and base product. They are based in Surrey and you can choose for them to post your stuff or send it to you. I think they ship to the US as well... Holland and Barrett also have organic hair and skin products as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm in UK and ordered Oyin Handmade from nexrastore.com and it came really fast. The site is beautiful too, love the vibe.
