Question of the week: Do you take vitamins for hair growth/maintenance?

I am curious, do any of you take vitamin or mineral supplements specifically for hair growth or maintenance or just in general?  Vote in the poll below and also feel free to comment and let me know which vitamins or supplements you are taking.

  1. I am so scared of long-term side effects of supplements/vitamins targeted at hair growth. I would be on some type if not for that since my hair seems not to grow as fast as 'normal'.

    1. Yes I have seen some women report pretty bad side effects related to high levels of some vitamins.

  4. After having extensive blood-work done last Spring, I was diagnosed with anemia and a vitamin D deficiency. After about 3 months of taking the prescribed supplements, I noticed a tremendous improvement in my hair density and strand strength. I'm not a fan of taking supplements for vanity reasons only, but if improved health equals more and better hair, what a wonderful bonus!

  5. I was diagnosed with severe vitamin D deficiency last year after my initial symtoms were ignored by a GP as I had been suffering from another illness. However there is no way the symptoms correlate. So after taking mega doses I am on a maintenance dose for the rest of my life.

    I was then informed 6 months later I have an iron deficiency and B12 deficiency. So I am on more supplements.

    So now I feel a lot better and have gone back to living a normal life. The side effect to this is my hair has stopped falling out, is no longer brittle and started growing.

  6. I agree with Miss Dwana "not a fan of taking supplements for vanity reasons". I take vitamins C (effervence tablets), D and B12 Complex (liquid), Acidophilus and Multi-vitamins. I am a Pescatarian and West Indian descent.

  7. Having a blood test done every 6 months has helped me know which vitamins to take regularly. I have noticed that more I exercise, especially lifting weights, the more iron and folic acid I need.

  9. i take one-a-day women's multivitamins only because my diet is lacking in certain vitamins/minerals and i'm still changing my diet around to get these nutrients in my everyday meals. So until i get a better handle on it, this multivitamin is for me. That and cod liver oil. I tried biotin for a bit; worked more on my nails than hair so i gave that up
