    1. Please add Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner. :) My thoughts are that it has a low (acidic) ph in order to account for/offset the very alkaline shampoo (cuticles raised, the conditioner can be pushed in). --That's what I hope. Thanks.

    2. This is a great reference list, thank you!

Could you add the MHM-approved version of Tresemmé Naturals Radiant Volume? It's the one with the caprylic/capric triglyceride toward the *end* of the list of ingredients and not the beginning. (It's not entirely clear to me whether that's the old or newer formula.) Thanks again!!!

  5. Hi JC. I have a quick question. What is the ideal pH range for a conditioner (deep or rinse out)? I use the Giovanni SAS but I am a little surprised to learn that the pH is so high. Is it okay as long as its below 7? Or should we look for things with more acidic pH's to help close the cuticle?

    Thanks in advance!

    1. Anything between pH 4-7 is perfectly fine for a conditioner.

    2. so do you think heaven in hair is a little low PH wise?

      Delete
    3. Yes, strictly speaking it is low. However, if it contains protein or amino acids, those tends to deposit better at lower pH and therefore it may actually be more effective than another protein containing which is at pH 6 for example . I think the best assessment of a conditioner is how it makes your hair feel.

    4. I was just about to ask the same question about the DevaCurl Heaven in Hair. I just recently went natural and did my big chop and I am participating in the curlsofjoy challenge, and week six was about pH and hair. I just wanted to confirm that the Heaven in Hair does contain amino acids (wheat amino acids, soy amino acids, and oat amino acids) it is a little far down in the list of ingredients, which may mean that they are present in a small amount. But since the amino acids are present is it right to assume that the pH of 3.7 is okay?

  6. Is this list only for major brands?

    1. As you can see in red at the bottom of the post, many smaller natural brands have been contacted but have not responded yet. The list is for any company that responds and for any products that I can pH test (please note that I will not be purchasing products that I do not need for this purpose)

  9. Interesting...the one HE conditioner that works the best for me in terms of slip is the one that has the lowest pH (None of your Frizzness). Since I started using Kinky-Curly products (lower pH) and did the Kimmaytube tweak on my Giovanni Direct leave-in (designed to lower pH) my hair has done amazingly well. Who'da thought? Thanks for this.

  10. Wow! This confirms it! I should stick with Jane Carter Solution!!! Thanks

  11. Hi thank you for these post they are really helpful as to help me understand why my hair feels a certain way after using a certain conditioner or shampoo. Can't wait for the leave-ins list to come. I just want to know if we can have the pH for the Aphogee balancing moisturizer conditioner, Garnier Fructis triple nutrition conditioner and the Garnier fructis length and strength conditioner, if possible. 14. Oh, and Jc, you have DevaCurl, I was wondering about DevaCARE One Conditioner. Also, if you can get it, I'd love to know the pH of Darcy's Botanicals Pumpkin Seed Conditioner (I use it as a DC and love it, so I suspect it has a pH in the 4-6 range). Thanks again!!

  18. I would gladly add the names of several of my favorite products to the research product list.

Roux- porosity control corrector & conditioner(one product).
Zotos- porosity equalizer leave-in spray-on treatment
Nexxus- Emergencee(new formula) restorative strength conditioning
    treatment.
The old gold standard formula of this product is Nexxus emergencee strengthening polymeric reconstructor. While it's can still be found if you do a bit of searching.

P.S. I just have to say this blog is just....the clear, clean, concise, SCIENTIFIC approach...this is priceless.

I was wondering if you might add Qhemet Biologics line and Koily by Nature to your list ( I think they provide the pH levels on the site, but i kinda trust you much more). Other then that all I can do is sing your praises for easing my mind and giving me the best information to make decisions on my own!! 31. Can you add Avalon Organics to the list? I'd like to go back to more natural shampoo's again but not if they're too high in ph as they're more expensive than the current herbal essence/aussie combo I'm using. awesome job btw! :)
