Things people do not tell you

Things people do not tell you:

1. When you are transitioning
For some hair, there is no amount of gel in the world that would create tiny little gorgeous curls like these. I am telling you, it is not about technique, it is about ability of your hair to do it or not. You may be better off waiting for a few months and doing a cute braid out like this.

2. When you are a veteran
You begin to wonder about locs even if you never previously considered them an option. It will happen.....just wait!

3. When you are a blogger
Try saying thank you every single time you receive a compliment. I mean every single time. I mean, do not ever get used to people being nice to you, assume it is normal and not thank them for being kind. There is a very selfish reason for this because it is a lovely antidote to the odd bit of negativity that you will receive because if you are doing a good job, you will have to say thank you many more times than you will have to frown.

  2. I don't understand, why would anyone send you a horrible email. You always do such great research and present facts. How can this annoy anyone?!

  3. Thank you ladies! Jane - I think some people like conflict and the anonymity of the internet has a way of bringing out the worst.....sad but true

  4. LOL at #2! It is so true! When I first BC'd, people kept asking me if I was locing and I would reply with a horrified "no!!!" but now, just one year later, I'm one month into my first loc journey lol. I just couldn't stomach the thought of dealing with my loose hair another minute. I enjoyed it when it was short and low maintenance but as it grew, hair care started taking over my life. My strands want to love on each other and get all tangled up so I figured, why keep fighting the good fight?

  5. I love this new segment.
I agree so much about always(or always trying to) saying Thank You. It's just common courtesy...regardless if it's on a blog or real life.

  9. Funny JC because when I first went natural many years ago it was with the sole intention to loc.
Now several heads of locs later, I will not choose to loc again. Some of you will miss your loose hair believe it or not, but locs are beautiful.

  10. Thanks everyone!!

Anon - I think for people who have had free hair for ages, locs begin to to look very tempting. I think it is different if you loc first because you don't get the experience of free hair,

  11. Thank You: about the gel, people saying make sure you follow all the "steps" won't change your hair texture nor the ability to retain the moisture needed to create the curly look!

    XOXO

  12. Okay, I'm officially bookmarking this website and going to become a regular. You're last tip about thanking every customer was really impressive only because I've been following popular vloggers and bloggers like yourself that do not take the time out to thank people who show them respect because they "aren't able to check their messages" or some lame excuse like that. You just proved that there really is no excuse at the end of the day. Stay blessed and humble!
