Is the science featured here easy to understand?
I have received a small number of emails from people saying sometimes the hair science here is difficult to follow. I would therefore like to take a survey and find out how much of the posts do you understand?
Feel free to comment on anything that you feel would help you or others to understand better. Videos, images, q&a..........anything!
Vote in the poll please!

I find the illustrations you often include very helpful!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteYour posts are perfectly understandable, even for non-English speakers, like me.
I have read all your posts with great pleasure and wait impatiently for more.
Greetings from Poland!
I personally LOVE your pictures and find that they complement the text very well. Thus, I find it to be fairly easy to follow. However, I have taken a number of semi-advanced science courses in college, so I have a science background...
ReplyDeleteI think you do a great job at breaking down complex scientific concepts and making them easily understandable. You're also really good at answering follow-up questions in the comments. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments. I appreciate the feedback :)
ReplyDeleteYour blog is awesome. Everything seems to be written in layman's terms. Not to mention there are illustrations :) Perhaps some people need to re-read or focus more closely on what they are reading. -A
ReplyDeleteThanks anon. I do want the blog to be accessible to all, so I would be interested to hear from those who struggle to follow rather than dismiss their concerns. I feel that the blog can only get better.
ReplyDeleteThe science is pretty easy to follow. The illustrations are clear. I guess those having a problem following might have to re-read some of the posts like someone else said.
ReplyDeleteI have no background in the sciences, and I've always found your posts to be crystal clear. I have even directed friends over here because of that very reason.
ReplyDelete(For the record, I'm sure I 'back-pedalled' and read them all)
For me, the science is easy to follow. You can't break it down more than you do. I think some people just aren't used to actually "thinking" especially when it comes to hair.
ReplyDeleteI can follow the science pretty well even though I'm a liberal arts major :P I did have kick butt in bio when i was forced to take it...
ReplyDeleteAlso, pictures increase comprehension by a bajillion percent 11/
out of 10 times. (Also did well in Statistics XD )
I have no problem following, so I'm not sure what to suggest.
ReplyDeleteThe science if easy to understand.
ReplyDeleteNot a problem for me. You know, science isn't for everyone. For many, the word "science" conjurs up academic anxieties of days gone by. Its okay. Like those days gone by, there is need to sometimes deeply ponder and think about what's being read instead of reading it and tossing up your hands with an "I don't get it!" I love this blog because it's seriously important to understand the why's and whatfores rather than hear "use this product when this happens."
ReplyDeleteI've never had any problem understanding your writing and I don't have a science background. I like how you break down some of the more complex topics to a level that I can understand. I'm not trying to be dismissive of other people's problems with comprehension but I think the challenge may lay more with the subject matter rather than the way you discuss it. But it's definitely worth the work of reading through it as you provide an enormous amount of good information that is available nowhere else in this sort of layman's format. I know that I'd never make it through the journals that you site. I think you're elevating the entire dialogue and getting the sisters to really think about their hair.
ReplyDeleteI find it easy to follow and the diagrams help too. Readers shouldn't by shy to ask questions as sometimes just changing the words round or explaining a bit helps to grasp something if you're struggling a little with grasping it.
ReplyDeleteNicki Valcius took the words out of my keyboard! Art historian here, lol... :p ... Personally I didn't have problems following you so far. I love your illustrations, they are very clear. And your texts are to the point, which helps in concentrating when reading. After following the Natural Haven for a while, I think for the first time in my life I have a pretty clear idea of what's going on on my head :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, and though I am biased (a fellow scientist), I think you make things easy to follow, since you have awesome illustrations, and allow freedom for feedback. Keep doing what you do! Maybe others need to ask questions if they do not understand something...instead of possibly having complaints (that's why this is a forum! lol).
ReplyDeleteOn another note, newcomers to this blog should read more than a few posts maybe, to increase their understanding going forward. When I first found your blog late last year, I started reading it from the beginning and worked my toward your present articles--I would say that helped a lot with understanding! Increased my patience and knowledge greatly about hair too (it's like learning a new subject! "hairology" 101, 202, etc...) :-) :-)
I find most of what you write easy to understand and the illustrations very helpful. Before I found your blog I used to visit hair boards frequently. Now I prefer getting information from you, especially because you provide science to support what you write.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the positive feedback. I am chuffed (English for happy).
ReplyDeleteI still would be interested to hear from any of the 3 people so far who disagree. It would help if you could elaborate so that I can see what I could do to help.
I love your blog and find your articles easy to understand. I love the scientific approach to explaining hair. ~Renee
ReplyDeleteI saw that in the post it said Q&A so can I ask a question?
ReplyDeleteBecause your blog is so informative and easy to understand, jeje, I'm always thirsty for new info!
So the question is, How can we find out about the ingredient lists in specific countries? I know that i read a while back on this blog about ingredient components in products (first five a bunch, the rest not so much). However, I recently moved to Spain and the bottle of HEHH that I brought over with me is almost finished. I tried to buy a new bottle in Spain, but as I was reading the ingredient list, I noticed that there were completely different ones AND that they weren't necessarily in order (water was third for example). I'm a little bit unsure on how to proceed, so if you had any links/information I'd appreciate it, thanks :-)
Your posts are very informative and some of the easiest science to follow. I think the visuals are very helpful, also. Honestly, I like reading the science behind the hair products. If only all scientists were so clear...
ReplyDeletePretty clear for me. Love your blog i'm always throwing the link to it everywhere because I find its easy, full of great resources and information and gets right to the "nitty gritty". :-)
