Before and After: Hair Conditioner

I am working on a recent epiphany and I need your help in building up the next hair poll!! I want to know which hair conditioner or conditioners do you use? If your hair was previously not natural, I also want to know what you used. After we get some responses coming, I'll put up a poll for everyone to be able to vote.

I'll go first

Before - Relaxed Hair - Dark and Lovely Cholesterol (my hair did like this product but frankly was too damaged to gain any benefits.)

After - Natural Hair - Herbal Essences line is my current favourite, have tried plenty of others including salon lines (all too light for my liking). Previous successful ones prior include pantene and superdrug.

If your hair was never relaxed (lifetime natural) or if you have always maintained relaxed hair, do comment on your best and worst conditioners.

Comments

  1. Before - Relaxed Hair: Pantene Pro V Relaxed and Natural Conditioner and Profectiv Mega Growth Deep Strengthening Growth Conditioner. Didn't use any leave in conditioner

After - Natural Hair: V05 Moisture Milks Conditioners, Aussie Moist (favorite), Giovanni Direct Leave In Conditioner

  2. Relaxed: My all time favorites were Dark and Lovely Dry Hair Healer conditioner and Dark and Lovely Moisture Seal Deep Conditioner.

Now Natural: I tend to make my own conditioning concoctions using simply oils or yogurt (mayonnaise or sour cream) w oils. My latest new leave in that I think I will keep around is Giovanni Smooth n Silky Deep Moisture Conditioner

  3. Always natural.

Favorites: Miracle Whip (the food condiment; for detangling), Oyin Honey Hemp Conditioner (co-washing)

Things I've Tried: Hollywood Beauty Olive Oil Cholesterol Conditioner, Carol's Daughter Hair Smoothie, Pantene (both regular and Relaxed and Natural), LeKair Cholesterol, Suave, VO5, Burt's Bees, Nature's Gate, Trader Joe's, Aveda, Neutrogena, JASON, raw egg, avocado, The Body Shop, Miss Jessie's and others…

I'd Like to Try: Anita Grant, yogurt and other homemade mixes

I dropped some of these conditioners because they contained too many synthetics. Others worked well but were too expensive. I use conditioner primarily to minimize damage to my hair while detangling (pre-poo), not for conditioning or hair repair. I never use heat on my hair and almost always wear my hair in protective styles, so damage really isn't an issue for me. I also use a low-poo shampoo. Nevertheless, I would like to try some deep conditioning treatments that make the hair stronger and protect it from environmental damage.

  4. Relaxed hair conditioners: Herbal essence (moisturized, hair was stronger and retained length during the period I used), Queen Helen Cholesterol(left hair very soft, light& airy), Aphogee.

Natural Hair conditioner: Aussie 3 minute miracle deep conditioner(leaves hair very soft, moisturized)

  5. Before - Relaxed Hair - Pantene Pro-V Relaxed and Natural, Organic Root Stimulator Hair Mayonnaise.

After - Natural Hair - Coconut Oil (pre-poo) and V05.

  6. Before (relaxed): Nexxus Humectress and Emergencee; Aphogee Treatment; Neutrogena Triple Moisture (Mask and Rinse out conditioner); Paul Mitchell Super Charged Moisturizer, The Cream (leave-in) and The Conditioner; Redken All Soft Heavy Cream, Smooth Down Butter Treat, Extreme CAT, and Extreme Anti-Snap (leave-in). As you can see, I mostly used salon brands.

After (natural): Trader Joe's Nourish Spa; Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose, Island Naturals, and GBP; Lekair Mango Cholesterol; Sauve Naturals (co-wash and detangle); Desert Essence Green Apple and Ginger Conditioner; Oyin Handmade Honey Hemp; and Giovanni Direct Leave-in (holy grail!). Mostly natural-ish stuff, not because I categorically believe that natural is better but because I don't use mineral oil or silicones and it's extremely difficult to find standard chemical formulations that don't have either of these.

  7. Before (relaxed) - Bumble & Bumble Creme de Coco & Purology Hydrate.

Now (natural) - (I rotate the following) Herbal Essences Hello Hydration (detangling), Suave Naturals Tropical Coconut (detangling), Tigi Moisture Maniac, Aubrey Organics Huneysuckle Rose (deep conditioning), Giovanni Direct Leave In (great under gels for twists/braids), Jessicurl Weekly Deep Conditioning Treatment (Best) & Jessicurl Too Shea! Extra Moisturizing Conditioner (Best). My hair absolutely HATES anything by Pantene & Infusium.

  22. I did my big chop 1 month ago and have experienced extreme dryness because of over processed hair. Lots of split ends. Hair just broke off: a disaster! Good because I decided to go natural and have been hunting for a miracle conditioner. I discovered Curl Harmony, a UK brand. The deep intensive repair conditioner is amazing. I have tried: Jessicurl weekly, Jessicurl too shea. Fekkai Protein RX (recommended by Oprah's hair stylist) but my hair hated this protein cocktail. I want to try Aubrey Honeysuckle.
