Henna Hairball: How permanent is Henna?

Another Question from the Henna Series - Can you remove Henna once you have dyed your hair?

As a scientist the answer is yes, as a human being the answer is no. For all intents and purposes, you should consider the process of dyeing hair with Henna to be a permanent one. In all honesty, you can definitely play with some solvents and acidity to remove or lighten it (yes there is even a reference for this which I am not putting up............as Niecy Nash would say, 'That is some foolishness'). Do a strand test, decide how long you want to leave it on. Henna appears to fade when used for body art but this is not what is happening. In actual fact our skin is constantly renewing itself. When your new cells come through, the old dyed ones fall off.

  4. This is kinda unrelated, but I really appreciate the fact that you said "intents and purposes" and not "intensive purposes." I majored in English, and it really stresses me out when people get this wrong.

    Great blog!

  5. Lol Koos, thanks. I also have a thing for correct spelling, grammar and punctuation. I think my spelling fails me many times because I've become quite lazy with the dictionary but with an English major reading, I'm going to make sure I dust it off. Thanks for your comment!

  6. Hi Jc, I have been reading your posts on your great blog, for a while now. I have learned a lot from your studies. I have had this burning question for a while now hope you can help out; I am 36 year old and i have been suffering (yes suffering) from the greys that are popping out of my head like crazy. I mean i allready have a few grey hairs in my eyebrow and I also have a grey eyelash! I dont feel my age and most of the time people think I am in my mid twenties. Nobody in my family is as much grey as I do. Is it possible that henna caused that? I dont want to believe that, but the question popped in my head and it just wont go away.I am an natural for a while now and I have been ussing henna again sinds January of this year. I have stoped using henna because it was so much work and afther a week i already had greys comming out. So i started to use chemicals to color my hear wich caused major breakage. And now i am back to my henna treathments wich I love because my hear is soft en strong and so on and so on.But I cant help to wonder.. please help!! (ps; I am sorry if I have murdered "the Kings English" I have an excuse though I am Dutch lol) regards

    B
