Natural Bloom Magazine - 100,000 Reader Suggestions

So you have been emailing me in your droves about when the next issue of the magazine is coming. Yes there will be more issues and they will be regular just as they were over the 2011-2012 period. I am looking to restructure the magazine actually and get a new format which is more visual and interesting.

If you do not know already, the magazine is formatted, edited and produced by me. It does take a lot of time and effort to make it and it is totally worth it in my view to the natural community. I am proud that the magazine has reached nearly 40,000 unique readers but I would love even more women with natural hair to read and participate in it. I want to see 100,000 unique readers therefore this is my goal for the 2013-2014 season!

Some changes that I am proposing to get to this goal are a few format changes as well as more engaging content.

1. Changing the format to a more visual display (more images, less text)
2. Including advertising content which is relevant to readers (i.e rather than an ad space, give shop owners space to explain more about how they make their product, why it is good and showcase results . Also request some trial samples where possible so that if readers want to try the products, they can do so before buying)
3. Extend the magazine from hair topics to interesting daily life topics from food to career advice

I would really appreciate it if you could vote in the poll on what you would like to see next in the new format magazine. If you would like to comment, please do ........I want to hear your suggestions and not just run my own by you!

  4. I just found this site today and wow! I am enjoying what I see so far. You need some marketing help to get the word out there to people who could really use it!

    1. lol it is interesting that you say that because it is something that has repeatedly been offered to me for 'free'. I put free in quotations because when push come to shove, there is suddenly talk of putting a price on the magazine or investing into a limited company. I am bored of it all so I am sticking to my guns until a genuine offer comes up :)

  5. I voted in the poll but also wanted to add: I think more images are good but balance it out with well thought out articles. I have "read" other online magazines that were picture heavy and sometimes it can get boring. The idea of lifestyle topics and more diversity is also good. Asian, caucasian etc women also struggle with hair and other self-image issues. However--and at the risk of sounding contradictory--I still think the hair features should still feature majority afro-textured hair. It's still under-represented in all of mainstream media. I also hope submissions from readers will still be welcome.

  6. I'd like articles on how hair changes as we age, what to expect, how to treat and care for our hair as we age, what is and is not possible (based on age, common illnesses or other conditions that affect our hair); styles for different hair densities and thicknesses (would love to see more styles from naturals who have kinky, thin, fine hair strands and naturally thin density); and cute or elegant hair accessories that work well for kinky textures (of any thickness and varying lengths). Thanks for "listening"!

  7. I clicked on the above link to see previous issues of the magazine, but the only thing that came up was the text labeling each issue. Also in previous posts, links to the magazine take me to a nonexistent blogger site.

  8. I just recently found this site. The magazine is wonderful and well done. I did the poll, but would like to see more info broken down for hair types. (Ex. hair care and products)

  9. Jc,

Your suggestions are great. Someone mentioned above a kids section, which I think is greatly needed. And perhaps an "experts corner" where hair care specialists and stylists can contribute.

    Continued Success!
