Your Ultimate Hair Conditioners

Here we go! I have now made a summary table of your favorite rinse out conditioners. The list ranks the products from most recommended to least recommended (yes feel free to give negative feedback if you use something that you do not like!).

Please note
1. Hair typing is relative. **If you class your hair as 4c or 4z....please refer to 4a and 4b on this table. For the sake of my sanity I have tried to stick with the original definitions**
2. Where a hair type is missing it is because the recommender did not quote it.
3. This table is for information purposes and results are not guaranteed. I am not asking you to be a product junkie but if you intend to be, then here are a few pointers lol.
4. The table can and will change depending on your recommendations!

Comments

  1. I love that VO5 Smoothie is in the top and bottom hehe.
Can't wait to see that leave-in list.

One rinse out condish to never, ever, ever...i mean NEVER buy....any by White Rain.

    1. The company that makes white rain, recently bought out VO5, and the formulas have become so watered down. Try to get the old bottles made by Alberto Culver.

  2. I would like to add Elucence Moisture Balance Conditioner. It gives me amazing slip. I have 4a/4b hair.

  4. Cosigning on the Organix Coconut. 4b and didn't like it one bit. :o)

  5. I wish I could help! I'm transitioning and while this is helpful for those with 4a and 4b hair nobody said anything for my 4c hair. *sadness*

    Though my edges are 4b.

Will you be updating this in the future? If so I'll be more than happy to list my favorites once I've finishes transitioning (4 month in ^-^). I've already got a couple in mind that I want to try! ^-^

    Thanks for the Ayurvedic series!

You should do a steam series next! ^-^

And I'm glad you got my link on the hibiscus.

  6. Addy there is technically no such thing as 4c or 3c according to Andre Walker's guide. If you feel your hair is as curly as it gets then it is either 4a or 4b. I have avoided adding more categories on the 4 type because it will get ridiculous. Some say 4c, I say 4z, Loo said 4abcxyz........so let us just stick to 4a and 4b :)

  7. Although it smells lovely and thats probably what convinced me to purchase it in the first place, thumbs down to the Organix coconut on my behalf. I used the rest of it to shave my legs : ).

  8. Lol Sheila! At least it did not go to waste

  9. Yeah. Organix Coconut is a hot. ass. mess. At least it was for me. I'm surprised there's so much hate for White Rain. I bought the coconut one because the drug store didn't have Suave Coconut. I don't remember being wowed by it, but it certainly smelled ten times better than Suave Coconut.

I'd like to throw my vote out for Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose. I'm on my fifth bottle. I honestly think that's the most re-purchase of any one product I've ever had. I also really like Knot Today as a detangler.

  11. I've been using HE HH for years. Now that I'm about to run out, I was thinking about trying something different. After seeing this table, I think I'm going to stick to what works! (Besides, AO HR is out of my price range.) Thanks!

  12. I'm type 4a. I've used Tresemee conditioners as long as I can remember. I use smooth and silky and it leaves my hair feeling soft (I think it is better than their moisturizer conditioner). In any case, I like it. I don't think it's a miracle worker, but it does it's job.

  13. Greetings, I am new to your blog. Where can I go to find out my hair type?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi Denise - Click on to the link 'relative' in this article. This will display an article with the LOIS system and it also has a link to the Andre Walker system.

You can also just google hair typing Andre Walker into google and you will get some links

  15. Another to add, The new Tresemme Naturals Moisturizing (or Volumizing, can't decide which I like better) Condish... I'm a 4b-c and it has been working wonders on my dryness. Great slip, no cones, and it smells amazing! Also a good addition if you mix your own leave-ins.

  16. I think I am a 4B & 4C, Organix was HORRIBLE! I just purchased the Hello Hydration Conditioner, so hopefully this will work!

  17. Very much needed!!! Thanks you.

  18. Hello hydration is great. I want to try aubrey organics conditioner I hear so much about it.

  19. Aubrey Organics Island Naturals is my go-to fix anything conditioner (the white camellia just didn't cut it for me). You can OD on it though if used as a co-wash, my hair actually went from dry to too soft one time! (My hair type is a 4...I still haven't really figured out if its a, b, or c. I think its b, but it has a moments and the sides have c moments too) The Suave Naturals Island Coconut is just garbage! Never again!

  20. I'm an Aubrey Organics fanatic (lol). The Honeysuckle Rose is my go to for a great deep condish, an instant condish, and is the base for my leave in condish mix. I admit, I'm a PJ with a lot of products, but I always reach for the Honeysuckle Rose.

  21. Hi

I'm new to being natural and I purchased the whole line of Organix products??? I haven't had any trouble with them thus far...is there something I should be aware of??/

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love Organix! Well, let me be specific: I love the Organix Shea Butter poo/conditioner. I have tried the coconut milk condi and also liked it, but not as much as the shea butter. Did not like the hydrating line at all - it really did nothing for my hair.

I will say though that I tried the Suave Coconut, and my hair was a tangled mess. I don't know if it was the HE HE poo/Suave Condi combo, but that was the only time my hair has ever been so tangled! Never again.

  23. You can add another point for the Yes to Cucumbers. I love that stuff, its so thick and provides much slip. I am a 4b with dense hair so I can go through some product but a lil goes a long with YtC.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mayo. That is my fave!! Plain Mayo from a food store. Full fat mayo.

    ReplyDelete
  25. 3c/4a. I would recommend Garnier Frucits Sleek & Shine Fortifying Conditioner. My other go-to's are HE Hydralicious, Aussie Moist and VO5 Strawberries and Cream. BTW I am currently using the Garnier mixed with water and coconut oil as a spray on leave-in and is the bomb for my twists and twist-outs.
PS...I must also second the Mayo for a protein conditioner :)

  26. my 1st time natural (10 years) my go conditioners used to be tresseme moisture or suave humectant. these no longer work as well on my hair. Im not sure if my hair has changes or products or both. but one thing my beautician did suggest made sense, buy products where they are frequetly bought because the do have a shelf life and some places dont rotate them out properly and if the are not being bought and not being rotated out = products that are no longer viable or work poorly at best.

  27. V05 with 3 table spoons of olive oil added to the bottle = love.

  28. Hair type: 4b

    Conditioners
    Yes Herbal Essences Hello Hydration
    Yes VO5 Moisture Milks
    Yes Yes To Cucumbers
    No Organix Coconut

    Leave in Conditioner
    Yes Giovanni Direct Leave in
    Yes Kinky Curly Knot Today

    Conditioner worth mentioning
Bath & Body Works coconut lime verbena moisturizing conditioner. I bought this on sale maybe 2 years ago when I was relaxed and still had it around when I started transitioning in the spring. I bc'd in August. I wanted to use up this condish and kept it around for cowashing. I love the smell and slip. And it gets my hair soft. I probably wouldn't purchase it again because of the cost, but I was surprised at how much I liked it on natural hair. Now that I'm near the end of the bottle, I'm kind of sad that it's the last of this condish.

  32. Actually the best ever shampoo I have ever used is Joico Re:nu Age Defy Softness & Manageability conditioner, but it is expensive, and unaffordable.

    Im 4c

  33. I would have to add Garnier Fructis Oil/Repair or Triple Nutrition(seems to have different names in different places.) 4b. I use it for co-washing and get the best results. Other than that, I like Herbal Essences Hello Hydration, much like everyone else but try not to use it all the time because I'm avoiding cones. It's the best for when my hair is feeling abused and neglected.

  35. I have 4a/4b hair.

I used Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose for about 10 months. It's fine. Nothing was wrong with it, but I was in the mood to try something new.

I switched to Nature's Gate Hemp Nourishing Conditioner for dry or frizzy hair after watching Richeau's review on it. That was the first new product I purchased outside of different oils in almost one year. Richeau is a product junkie, so I trusted her vote of confidence.

Both are thick, but AOHR is slightly thicker.
In comparison to AOHR, the bottle is larger (18oz) and cheaper (~$6.99-7.99, from Whole Foods)(I did price check buying in bulk online through Amazon, I found 4 bottles for $20).

I always mix in honey (in the summer) and coconut oil (with both AOHR and NG). I wash and DC my hair once a week. I have been really pleased with NG's for the last six months. It makes my hair hold it's natural shine, I feel like my hair has volume, my curls are always nice a plump and it works great as a detangler (be generous). I don't care about scent, but it's pleasant.

It's taken me forever to do this review because I had to wait until I went through 2 bottles...I'm not complaining. I've been very impressed with how long the bottle lasts.

    smells heavenly..

  37. I'm with Shelia above - a big thumbs down to Organix Coconut conditioner. I'm a 3b. It's too heavy with silicones that constantly need to be stripped away for this product to work. I am pretty sure the shampoo it comes with does not have a harsh enough sulfate to wash the 'cones either... Ugh, it's just a mess! It ended up drying out my hair unless I strip away the 'cones and moisturize with another conditioner.

  41. JC Thank YOU!!! I was just about to do a protein treatment but noticed I was out of a moisturizing condish, so I uttered some profanity as I closed my squeaky bathroom cabinet and then it hit me like a strong gust of fresh air: GET ONLINE IN CHECK OUT THE NATURAL HAVEN! I'm off to Rite Aid! Thanks Divas!

  42. Hi JC!
    Hi Followers!
I know this thread is old(ish) but I've been wondering for about 2 years (!!) why everyone is so in love with Hello Hydration from Herbal Essence? Yes, it smells delish but it don't do nothing for me. I've been using HE Long Term Relationship conditioner for maybe 4 years and never heard or read anyone recommending it...even on the US blogs I look at. It can't only be available in Canada, can it?? Amazing slip, sweet, sweet smell, great moisture... I wash my hair once a week with Head n Shoulders, slap on the Long Term, rinse and do the LOC thing about every 3 days with olive or coconut oil and any hair cream really. I'm 4C (maybe D? hahaha!)
Has anyone heard of that product? Is my hair so special I'm the only Black person using it?
I often think about it... Thought I'd leave that here. I can send you a pic of the ingredients if need be.

    see ya!
